Pour la libération de Bernard Rappaz, Marc Emery et de tous les prisonniers de la guerre aux drogues

Après 14 jours de libération pour cause médicale, le chanvrier suisse Bernard Rappaz a été incarcéré de nouveau.

Rappelons que cette libération faisait suite à 50 jours de grève de la faim.

Bernard Rappaz est en danger.

Il est victime des fluctuations de la politique suisse en matière de stupéfiants qui, après avoir libéralisé le chanvre pendant quelques années, a été l’objet d’un revirement répressif. Après s’être battu pour une meilleure compréhension du chanvre dans la société suisse, Bernard Rappaz est aujourd’hui le bouc émissaire du retour de la guerre aux drogues dans son pays.

Parce qu’il est inacceptable que les aléas des politiques fassent ainsi des victimes supplémentaires, nous demandons la libération immédiate de Bernard Rappaz.

Simultanément Marc Émery, engagé de même pour la libération du cannabis, au Canada, a été extradé aux États-Unis, où il devrait purger une peine de cinq ans de prison.

Nous demandons également la libération de Marc Émery qui, de même que Bernard Rappaz, est le bouc émissaire du combat pour la légalisation dont il a été un ardent promoteur.

Rappelons les incarcérations de Chakib El Khayari, au Maroc, Maksim Popov en Ouzbekistan pour leurs activités militantes et politiques.

Il est indigne que des États exercent ainsi de basses vengeances envers les adversaires de politiques qui demandent à être révisées d’urgence qu’on le veuille ou pas.

International Call for the Liberation of Bernard Rappaz, Marc Emery and all prisonners of the war on drugs.

After 14 days of medical released, the hemp farmer Bernard Rappaz has been incarcerated once more.

Rappaz obtained this brief freedom only after a 50-day hunger strike.

Bernard Rappaz is in danger.

He is the victim of ongoing fluctuations in Swiss narcotics policies. Switzerland, after having adopted more liberal hemp policies for a few years, had a sharp turnaround and has begun to crack down on farmers. A strong voice in the struggle for a better understanding of hemp in Swiss society, today Bernard Rappaz has become a scape goat as his county returns to a full-fledged war on drugs.

It is unacceptable for more to fall prey to Switzerland’s vague policies. We demand the immediate release of Bernard Rappaz.

Equally urgent, Canadian hemp activist Marc Emery has been extradited to the United States, where he risks a sentence of 5 years in prison.

We also demand the liberation of Marc Emery who, like Bernard Rappaz, is the scapegoat and unfair target of the law in the struggle for cannabis legalization, of which he is an ardent promoter.

We recall incarcerations of Chakib El Khayari, in Morocco, Maksim Popov, in Uzbekistan, for their activism and political engagement.

It is indecent that these governments stoop so low as to seek vengeance on their political adversaries. It is urgent that these policies be revisited, whether the states like it or not.

Backgrounds :

- BERNARD RAPPAZ, hemp farmer from Valais, Switzerland, was detained up by police on march 20th. Bernard has been accused (and comdemned by new retroactive laws) of illegal trade in cannabis, but since he is one of the country’s leading hemp industrialists and forefighters of the Freedom to Farm, he is wellknown as a pioneer for biological agriculture and renewable energy. Those "qualities" made him a genuine target of authorities from the Valais county.

MARC EMERY : Marc Emery is known around the world as the "Prince of Pot". He has been imprisoned in the USA for his political activism and philanthropy. The Canadian Minister of Justice, Rob Nicholson, extradited Marc Emery to the USA for an expected five-year prison term for selling marijuana seeds over the Internet and funding marijuana legalization efforts worldwide. The Justice Minister made his decision on May 10th, 2010
